Counseling Intern

Kelly Rios

Hello and welcome to a space where your emotional well-being is the priority. My name is Kelly, and I am devoted to guiding you through your journey of self-discovery and healing. I am here to walk alongside you as you build a healthier relationship with yourself and others.

One of the most valuable insights my clients gain from our time together is the importance of self-compassion. A previous client would tell you that through our sessions, they learned the significance of being gentle with themselves. Progress and improvement are not overnight phenomena; they take time and patience. You deserve to treat yourself with kindness at every step of your personal journey.

I believe that true human connection is essential for healing. I strive to understand the unique individuals who seek my help by showing a real interest in their stories and acknowledging their individuality. I view therapy through a trauma-informed lens, recognizing that certain behaviors, thoughts, and emotions may have been adaptive in the past but may not serve you in the present. This doesn't mean something is wrong with you; it reflects your capacity to adapt and survive. My role is to act as a reflective surface, helping you see yourself more clearly and to assist in reframing perspectives that no longer contribute positively to your life.

I have a particular connection with working with children and teens, helping them navigate the complexities of growing up. My passion extends to the Latino community, and I offer therapy in Spanish to better serve individuals within this community. I am open and experienced in working with clients of any gender, and I find great fulfillment in supporting autistic individuals and their caregivers.

My therapeutic style is diverse, as I draw upon various modalities tailored to each client's needs. The modalities I frequently utilize include:

  • Person-Centered Therapy: Emphasizing the client's role in the therapeutic process.

  • Mindfulness Practices: Fostering a present-focused, non-judgmental awareness.

  • Motivational Interviewing: Encouraging change by resolving ambivalence.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Identifying and changing negative thought patterns.

  • Narrative Therapy: Reconstructing the stories of clients' lives.

  • Strengths-Based Therapy: Building on individual strengths and resources.

I invite you to begin your path to a more compassionate and authentic self. Together, we can explore your inner world and the possibilities that lie ahead. Let's embark on this journey together.
