Resident In Counseling

Abbie Cress

LMHP-R

Hello! I'm Abbie, and I've dedicated my career to guiding individuals through their unique life challenges and fostering their personal growth. My clients often say that one valuable skill they've learned from our sessions is how to process and manage their emotions during and after a crisis. This empowerment has led to a greater sense of autonomy and confidence, positively impacting their self-image and interpersonal relationships.

Building a strong therapeutic relationship is crucial to the work we will do together. I strive to create a collaborative, nonjudgmental, and safe space where healing can commence. I believe in actively involving you in your treatment process and providing empathetic, compassionate, and supportive care. This approach has proven to be instrumental in developing a meaningful connection with my clients.

I view therapy through a holistic lens, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment because we are all unique individuals. My trauma-informed approach ensures that I'm sensitive to the past experiences that shape your current reality, tailoring our sessions to meet your specific needs.

Your journey to wellness begins with the courageous step of seeking counseling. I believe in the power of a collaborative partnership to explore preferred treatment methods and establish realistic goals. Finding the right therapist-client fit is essential, and I'm committed to staying informed about current research and therapeutic techniques to provide the best care possible.

My experience spans working with adults aged 18 and above, tackling serious and chronic mental health issues in an inpatient setting, as well as addressing mood and personality disorders, and self-harm behaviors. I'm an advocate for the transformative power of group therapy. I have supported individuals with personality disorders, trauma/PTSD, self-harm, depression, anxiety, and communication challenges.

The modalities I frequently employ in our sessions include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helping you identify and modify negative thought patterns and behaviors.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Focusing on providing you with new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships.

  • Solution-Focused Therapy: Concentrating on finding solutions in the present time and exploring your hope for the future.

If you're ready to start your path to healing and self-discovery, I'm here to walk beside you. Together, we will explore the depths of your experiences and work towards a more fulfilled and balanced life.
